The Khrinnyky Reservoir is the largest artificial water body in the Rivne and Volyn regions. It lies on the Styr River near the village of Khrinnyky, on the border of the Dubno district in the Rivne region and the Lutsk district in Volyn. The wide expanse of water among the hills, steep banks, and sunsets over the water have made the reservoir a favourite recreation spot in the south of the Rivne region.
Dam and HPP
The reservoir was created in 1957 to supply operation for the hydroelectric power station built into the dam. The surface area of the water body is 18.3 square kilometres, the depth ranges from two to six metres, and it is deeper in the old bed of the Styr and in hollows.

Throughout its history, the reservoir has been drained several times. The longest break began in May 1989, when a karst sinkhole with a diameter of 25 metres and a depth of nine metres was discovered near the dam. The reservoir was emptied and only filled again in 1999, after the dam was repaired. The water level in the Khrinnyky Reservoir still affects the Styr all the way to Lutsk.
Bluffs and Scenery
The banks of the reservoir are high and steep in places. A particularly fine view opens up from the Shankiv Yar tract, a hill above the water with a view of the entire water expanse. The surrounding slopes are partly included in a protected tract.

Archaeology
The banks of the reservoir are a true archaeological treasure. During rescue excavations near Khrinnyky, archaeologists found a multi-layered settlement with artefacts ranging from the Eneolithic to the Early Middle Ages, including Gothic treasures and ancient arable farming tools.
Fish and Recreation
About 28 species of fish live in the reservoir: pike, perch, bream, roach, rudd, catfish, common carp, Prussian carp, and tench. This is a public water body, so amateur fishing here is free of charge, except during the spring spawning ban period. In summer, people relax, swim, and pitch tents on the shores.

Fishing
Pike, perch, bream, roach, rudd, catfish, common carp, Prussian carp, and tench are caught in the Khrinnyky Reservoir. The depth is mostly two to six metres, and deeper in the old bed of the Styr and in hollows, which is where predators stay. People fish from both the shore and boats. General fishing rules apply, and from November 1 fishing is prohibited in wintering pits — list and map of the pits.
