Kivertsi is a town 12 km north-east of Lutsk, the center of the Kivertsi hromada, home to about 14 thousand people. Until 2020, it was a district center. Kivertsi is surrounded by pine and oak forests, making the town a convenient gateway to the Tsumanska Pushcha National Nature Park and the entire forested north of the Lutsk region.
The Town Born of the Railway
Kivertsi owes its existence to the railway. In 1870–1873, a track was laid between Rivne and Kovel, and a station of the same name was built 7 km from the village of Kivertsi (now Prylucke). In 1890, another line was laid through it, and later — tracks to Lutsk and Lviv. Thus, the settlement by the station became an important railway junction, and in 1929, urban development rules were extended to it.
In the winter of 1944, Kivertsi was the only fortified stronghold on the path of the offensive against Lutsk.

Nature Around
On the outskirts of the town, within the Kivertsi Forestry, there are several botanical natural monuments: Dubovyk, the Patriarch Oak, Lisodub, Chystyi Dubniak, Dubososnyna, and patches of old forest. Hundreds-of-years-old oaks grow here.
Further north begins the Tsumanska Pushcha — one of the largest forest tracts in Volyn, now a national nature park. Hiking and cycling routes are laid out here, there are picnic spots, and in autumn the forest is famous for mushrooms.

One-Day Itinerary

Nearby
Lutsk is a 15-minute drive away, and the Zhydychyn Monastery is even closer. Find more in the article Lutsk District.
When to Visit
The best time is from May to October. In spring, lilies of the valley bloom in the forests; in summer, the shade of the pine forests saves you from the heat; autumn is mushroom season, and cars of mushroom pickers line the roadsides leading to the pushcha. In winter, the trails of the Tsumanska Pushcha are great for cross-country skiing and hiking.
Practical Tips
For walks in the pushcha, take comfortable shoes, water, and tick repellent. Campfires are allowed only in designated areas. There are shops and cafes in Kivertsi, and you can stay overnight either here or in Lutsk — it is very close.
How to Get There
Kivertsi is a railway station on the lines to Lutsk, Rivne, Kovel, and Sarny, so it is easy to get here by train. Marshrutkas and buses run from Lutsk, and the journey takes 20 minutes.
