Luka is a glacial lake near the village of Samary in northern Volyn. Old-timers say the name comes from its shape: the lake is curved like a bow (luk). This is a tranquil Polissian lake with a sandy bottom and shores partially overgrown with reeds.
What it is like
The length of the lake is 2.4 kilometers, its width is about 560 meters, and its area is 1.35 square kilometers. The depth reaches ten meters. The basin is elongated, and the shores are low, occasionally marshy. Luka is fed mainly by surface waters. The bottom is sandy, and in the northwestern part, it is silted. There is plenty of emergent and aquatic vegetation near the shores.
Fishing
Bream, carp, crucian carp, and pike inhabit Luka. Pike are sought near the thickets along the shore, while bream and carp are found in deeper spots in the center of the lake where the bottom is sandy. General fishing regulations apply, and starting from November 1, fishing is prohibited in wintering pits — list and map of pits.
