Distance is in a straight line. A simple rule: if the neighbouring crossing has half as many cars and the drive there takes less than an hour, it is worth going; if the difference is small, stay, as you will not make up the time spent driving there.

How long you actually waited

Official services show the cars in front of the crossing, not how long it took you to get through. Only drivers have this figure — share yours so that the next ones know what to expect.

When the queue is shortest

The shortest wait for cars on the Polish side (entry to Ukraine) is usually at 18:00–21:00, the quietest day is Wednesday.

Average over the last 4 days according to the Polish Border Guard, Kyiv time. Air raid alerts and holidays can change everything.

Ustyluh – Zosin is a border crossing on the Buh River, one kilometre from the town of Ustyluh in Volodymyr District. It operates 24/7. Currently, it is the only checkpoint in Volyn that handles passenger cars: the neighbouring Yahodyn accepts only trucks over 7.5 tonnes and buses. Its throughput capacity is about 4,000 people per day.

Who is permitted to cross

  • Cars and minibuses.
  • Scheduled and tourist buses — by booking in the eCherha system for a specific time (starting from 21 April 2026).
  • Trucks up to 7.5 tonnes (since 2022, until a separate decision) and empty trucks entering Poland.
  • Crossing the border on foot is not allowed here. There is no official data on bicycles — it is better not to count on them.

On the Polish side, there are separate lanes: for EU citizens, "all passports", buses, and trucks up to 7.5 tonnes. Since 5 November 2025, the EES biometric system has been operating here, meaning the first crossing takes more time.

How to get to the checkpoint

The nearest town with a bus station is Volodymyr, about 20 km away. Buses run there from Lutsk (about 85 km) and Kovel. From Volodymyr to Ustyluh, there are suburban buses; check the schedule at the bus station. The schedule of Volyn bus stations is available in the "Bus schedules" section.

There are no direct Lviv – Ustyluh buses, only with a transfer. The checkpoint does not allow pedestrians, so without a car, the border can only be crossed here by international bus.

Where to next in Poland

  • Hrubieszów — about 20 km. From there, PKP Intercity trains run to Lublin and via Zamość to Kraków.
  • Zamość — about 65 km, Chełm — about 55 km, Lublin — about 120 km (straight-line distances, further by road).
  • Airports: Lublin (LUZ) — about 110 km, Rzeszów (RZE) — about 170 km, Warsaw Chopin (WAW) — about 260 km. Ukrainian airports have been closed to civilian flights since 24 February 2022.

Where to eat, refuel and withdraw cash

Shops are located in Ustyluh itself, a few hundred metres from the checkpoint: Maksym, Luga Market, Express 7, ABC, Zodiak Next. Gas stations (most of them 24/7) are located at the exit from the town towards Volodymyr: Ukr-Petrol, Amic, SkyRocket, Ukrnafta, Elektron (LPG).

There are no cafes, ATMs, currency exchange offices or hotels near the checkpoint on either the Ukrainian or Polish side. Withdraw cash and exchange currency in advance — in Volodymyr, there are PrivatBank and Oschadbank ATMs and currency exchange offices, as well as the Volyn Hotel. On the Polish side, the nearest shop is in the village of Łusków, almost 4 km away.

Restrooms

A restroom is located right near the checkpoint on the Ukrainian side, and several more are in Ustyluh, within a distance of up to a kilometre. There is no official information about restrooms and water in the queue zone — bring water and snacks with you.

Road tips

  • During an air raid alert, processing is suspended. On 20 October 2026, due to alerts, 80 cars and 5 buses were waiting to depart. Border guards advise setting off earlier and having a time reserve.
  • Before departure, map your route using the map at the top of the page — it will show travel time taking traffic jams into account.
  • Documents and customs limits can be found on the "Border checkpoints" page.

What to do before the queue

  • Fill up in advance. The last kilometres are stop-and-go with the engine running, and fuel goes faster than you think.
  • Water and snacks for everyone, with extra for children: you cannot leave the queue and get your place back.
  • Some złoty in cash for the first fuel stop or toll section: card terminals do not always work.
  • Power bank. Navigation and the queue app drain your phone quickly, and you need it at the checkpoint.
  • Keep documents at hand, not in the boot: passport, driving licence, vehicle registration, Green Card, medical insurance; for someone else's car, a power of attorney.

Why do queue figures differ between sources?

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine counts vehicles in front of the crossing on the Ukrainian side, the Polish Border Guard gives the approximate waiting time for entry to Ukraine on the Polish side, and the eCherha queue system only sees registered vehicles. These are different measures, so we show them separately, each with its update time.

Where the figures come from

Ukrainian side: the State Border Guard Service map, showing how many vehicles are waiting in front of the crossing and how fast they are processed. Polish side: Straż Graniczna, the approximate waiting time for entry to Ukraine, updated up to 8 times a day. These are different measures, so we do not add them up, and next to every figure we show when it was updated. «Usually» and the tables come from our own measurements over the last 8 weeks, and «how long you waited» comes from drivers' reports on this page.
