St. Nicholas Church is a wooden temple built in 1872 in Dubrovytsia, one of the oldest towns in Rivne region. It is a local architectural landmark. The church stands on a stone foundation, is covered with sheet metal, and a wooden bell tower rises nearby.

Ancient Parish

The parish of St. Nicholas is much older than the current church: metric books have been kept here since 1790. At least until 1834, the church belonged to the Greek Catholic deanery and later became Orthodox. In 1859, the parish numbered over 1,800 believers. It included the town of Dubrovytsia, the villages of Berestia with a cemetery chapel, and Orvianytsia.

New Church and School

The current church was built in 1872 at the expense of the parishioners. In 1876, a parish brotherhood was founded here, and the following year a one-class public school was opened. In 1889, 40 children studied at the school, and the parish had over 2,600 believers and nearly 70 desiatyns of land: arable fields, hayfields, and pastures.

What to See Nearby

Dubrovytsia is worth a whole day. The Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin are located here, and the town itself marks over a thousand years of history. The St. Nicholas Church is one of those wooden sanctuaries that has preserved the atmosphere of an old Polissian town.
