Lake Pisočne is one of the Shatsk Lakes located to the northeast of the village of Melnyky. It is not large, but it has a feature that the entire Shatsk group is proud of: it has the clearest water among all the lakes in the park. The bottom and shores are sandy, and it is surrounded by pine forest. Pisočne is part of the Shatsk National Natural Park.

What it is like

The length of the lake is about two kilometers, its width is 1.9 kilometers, and its area is 1.38 square kilometers. The basin is rounded, the average depth is about seven meters, and the maximum exceeds 16 meters. Like Svityaz, Pisočne is of karst origin: it is fed by surface and groundwater. The lake freezes in winter.

The water here is soft, with low mineralization — even lower than in Svityaz, well-saturated with oxygen, and almost unpolluted. There are no large industrial enterprises nearby, and the status of the national park protects the lake.

Sanatorium and biological station

The "Lisova pisnya" sanatorium with four hundred beds stands on the shore, mainly specializing in cardiology. Vacationers are also welcomed in private guesthouses near the sanatorium and in Melnyky. Additionally, a biological and geographical field station of Lviv University operates on the shore, where the nature of the Shatsk region is studied every year.

Fish

Bream, crucian carp, pike, and carp inhabit the lake. Certain fish species, including largemouth bass, have also been introduced here.

Recreation

Pisočne is a great place for families with children: a sandy bottom, pine trees over the water, and quiet. There are fewer people here than on Svityaz. The lake is also beautiful in winter — snow-covered, among snow-drifts of pine trees.

Fishing

Bream, crucian carp, pike, and carp are caught in Pisočne. The water here is the clearest among the Shatsk Lakes, so the fish are cautious: it is better to fish early in the morning or in the evening using fine tackle. It is convenient to fish from the sandy shores near Melnyky and the "Lisova pisnya" sanatorium. General fishing regulations apply, and fishing in wintering pits is prohibited starting November 1 — list and map of pits.
