Three people were injured overnight as a result of another Russian attack on Zhytomyr region. One person was hospitalized with burns, while two others were diagnosed with acute stress reactions.
Fires broke out in several locations
The strikes sparked fires at a civilian infrastructure facility and at a private enterprise. A direct hit was also recorded on a private residential building. Debris from intercepted or damaged targets fell on residential and outbuildings, also causing a fire.
All fires caused by the overnight attack have now been extinguished.
Psychologists are assisting those affected
Emergency psychologists from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are working with residents who experienced the overnight attack, particularly those diagnosed with acute stress reactions.
Background: a night of alarm lasted nearly seven hours
The attack was another in a series of overnight strikes on Zhytomyr region. Air raid alerts were declared three times overnight — at 00:07, 03:29 and 05:17. The all-clear following the final alert was issued only at 07:22.
Throughout the night, monitoring channels and the Ukrainian Air Force repeatedly reported the movement of jet-powered UAVs toward Zhytomyr and other settlements in the region, including Malyn, Radomyshl, Cherniakhiv, Korostyshiv, Andrushivka and others.
The consequences of the attack were reported in the morning by Vitalii Bunечko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration. According to him, the Russian attack damaged civilian infrastructure facilities and a private enterprise with German investment, as well as a residential building.
Residents of Zhytomyr reported that explosions could be heard intermittently from midnight until dawn, while thick black smoke covered the sky over the city.
Notably, on the evening of August 8, Bunечко publicly urged residents of the region not to ignore air raid warnings and to seek shelter in time. He also called on officials to ensure that residents had unrestricted access to protective shelters.
The night of August 9 showed that the warning was far from merely formal.
Emergency services continue to work
All relevant services have been deployed at the affected sites. Rescuers extinguished the fires, are inspecting the areas and documenting the damage.
