Polissia Nature Reserve is one of the oldest nature reserves in Ukraine, located in the north of Zhytomyr region, within the Olevsk and Ovruch hromadas, near the border with Belarus. It protects typical landscapes of Polissia: pine forests, bogs, sand dunes, and small rivers.
What is protected here
The reserve was created to preserve untouched Polissia forests and bogs. Elks, wild boars, wolves, beavers, capercaillies, and black grouses live here, and rare plants listed in the Red Data Book grow here. The bogs of the reserve serve as natural filters and sources of Polissia rivers.
How to visit
The main part of the reserve is closed for free access, but there are ecological trails and excursions for tourists that must be arranged with the administration. Signs of illegal amber mining—one of the main threats to Polissia nature—can also be seen on the territory.

Olevsk and Ovruch are ancient Polissia towns that serve as convenient starting points for visiting the reserve. Explore more of the region: Zhytomyr Polissia and Korosten district.
