Russian forces attacked Zhytomyr region overnight on September 1, 2026. The aftermath of the attack was reported by Vitalii Bunечko, Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration.
According to him, strikes were recorded in the Zviahel and Korosten communities. Industrial facilities and warehouse buildings were damaged as a result of the attack.
Fires broke out at the sites hit by the enemy. Emergency crews have already extinguished one of the fires, while firefighters were still working to put out a second blaze at the time of the report.
A night of repeated air-raid alerts in Zhytomyr region
The region experienced several air-raid alerts during the night. At 12:54 a.m., monitoring channels reported a drone threat approaching from the direction of Kyiv region, reportedly heading toward Ovruch.
At 1:03 a.m., a jet-powered UAV was reported moving toward Yemilchyne. The aerial target was subsequently reported heading toward Novi Bilokorovychi and Korosten.
At around 1:19 a.m., monitoring channels reported a jet-powered UAV approaching Korosten from the north. At 1:26 a.m., the air-raid alert was lifted.
Another air-raid alert was declared in Zhytomyr region at 2:14 a.m. This time, reports indicated a possible missile threat. The alert was cancelled at 3:14 a.m.
No casualties reported
According to preliminary information, there were no deaths or injuries as a result of the overnight attack.
Emergency services continue to work at the affected sites. Firefighters are dealing with the consequences of the strikes, while specialists are inspecting nearby areas for possible unexploded ordnance and other explosive hazards.
Law enforcement officers are also documenting the aftermath of the attack and recording evidence of Russian war crimes against civilian infrastructure in Zhytomyr region. The extent of the damage may be clarified as inspections continue.
Regional authorities urged residents of Zhytomyr region not to ignore air-raid alerts and to remain in shelters whenever an air threat is announced.
