Volosne is a hydrological reserve with an area of 271 hectares, located southeast of the village of Ushomyr in Korosten Raion, within the Ushomyr forestry district. It has been protected since 1982.

Why it is protected

The reserve preserves a sphagnum-sedge transitional mire with sedge and grass communities. Such a mire acts like a sponge: it regulates the groundwater level and the hydrological regime of the Uzh River. Part of the mire in the north was artificially flooded, and cowberries grow on the moss turf along the edges.

Who lives here

Waterfowl nest on the mire, and about ten species of reptiles and amphibians are also counted here.

Tip

It is best to view the mire from the edge: venturing deep without a guide is dangerous. The trip can easily be combined with Ushomyr—its old park and the banks of the Uzh.

How to get there

From Korosten to Ushomyr is about 20 km, and the reserve lies southeast of the village. Nearby are the Shchabel Reserve and Sukachove. More can be found in the article about Korosten Raion.
