A few kilometres from the Kyiv — Chop highway (M-06), not far from the village of Horodske in the Zhytomyr district, in a picturesque pine forest on the shore of a lake, lies an unusual spiritual centre — the Holy Spirit Men's Monastery. This place attracts not only pilgrims, but also tourists looking for peace, quiet, and harmony with nature.
Location and atmosphere
The monastery stands in a quiet forest area, away from the city noise. The road to it runs through a pine forest, which already puts one in the mood for inner peace.
A special atmosphere reigns here:
- silence and the absence of bustle;
- a welcoming attitude towards visitors;
- natural surroundings — forest, water, clean air;
- simplicity without excessive pathos.
This is a place where it is easy to focus on prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Architecture and style
The monastery buildings are mostly wooden. The architectural design combines traditional Ukrainian motifs and spiritual symbolism.
The complex is distinguished by:
- an underground church;
- the "Ukrainian Golgotha" memorial;
- an image of the Madonna executed in the Catholic tradition;
- miniature stone castles;
- carved figures of characters from Ukrainian fairy tales.
Such a combination creates a special spiritual and cultural space that evokes strong emotions in visitors. The monastery is designed in a distinct patriotic Ukrainian style, without excessive decorativeness or ostentatious luxury.

History of foundation
The Holy Spirit Men's Monastery was founded in 2000 on the initiative of Vladyka Iziaslav of Zhytomyr and Ovruch. Today, the cloister belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
According to legend, a traffic accident happened to Vladyka right at this spot. His car sustained serious damage, but his life was saved by a large stone lying at the crossroads. This event was perceived as a sign from above, and it became the impetus for the creation of the monastery amidst the forest.
The abbot of the cloister is Archimandrite Antoniy.
"Ukrainian Golgotha"
On the territory of the monastery, there is the "Ukrainian Golgotha" memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the genocide of the Ukrainian people and the repressions against the Orthodox clergy.
