The village of Holubivka lies on the right bank of the Rostavytsia river, approximately 9 km southwest of Ruzhyn, and is part of the Ruzhyn settlement hromada of Berdychiv raion. According to the 2001 census, 822 people lived here. The village was first mentioned in 1605; according to legend, it was founded by a Cossack or nobleman named Holub, whose surrounding fertile lands were granted by the Koretsky princes.

History of the Village

Holubivka changed several owners — among them were the Branickis and Potockis. In the 19th century, the village passed to the Mazaraki family of landowners of Greek origin, who already owned estates in Krasnopil and Rayhorodok. Thanks to rich soils and a convenient location on the river, the village became a prominent agricultural center.

Mazaraki Estate

The Mazarakis built their own estate in Holubivka, of which the following have survived to this day:

  • park;
  • fence.

A portion of the buildings has also survived, although brick cladding makes it difficult to determine their age: some of them may be Soviet, while others are genuine remains of the estate.

A school is located on the territory of the former estate. Its building was likely erected in the 1920s, perhaps on the basis of the Mazaraki manor house. Following Soviet brick cladding, it has a modern appearance, but still retains the spirit of the past.

Brick Factory

Another interesting structure in Holubivka is the old brick factory. Its large kiln resembles an artillery caponier, but bricks were actually fired here.

Production continued until the 2000s, and today the factory has fallen into decay and turned into a ruin. This is an important part of the village's industrial history.
